Literary tastes

I read a lot. We're talking five, six, seven books a month here. Is that a lot to you? Perhaps my eyes are slow and lazy. However, I know for a fact that I'm not as much of a speed reader as my mother, who is currently churning through the Master and Commander series and loving it.

What's whetting your literary appetite at the moment? It's Writers' Week here in Adelaide this week and I'll hopefully make it along to a few workshops/readings. But with so much on in the city at the moment, and a fresh start to Uni who knows if I'll have the time.

Anyway, back to reading. I'm pretty excited by all the choice on my bookshelves, and my easy access to libraries. Additionally, I've come across a few books in my travels lately...

A gift from my amazing mother. Theoretical physics described in a whimsical way? Yes please.

Came across these in a local opshop and looking forward to digging in!

I recall this being reviewed in Vogue/Harper's Bazaar last year perhaps?

How glorious is this hard cover?!

What are you looking forward to reading in 2010, fellow book-lovers?

  1. I see your glorious hardcover, and I raise you that badass hardcover.

    (strangely enough, I don't have "20 000 lieux sous les mers". Shame, really)

    As for books, well, I'm more of a SciFi/Fantasy guy, but I've started ready "Catcher in Rye", at long last. Will see how it goes.

  2. That is a lot! I read, at most, 4 books per month. I try to read 50 a year, but this year I'm already way behind!

    These are beautiful. I love all of the creative hardcovers that have been coming out lately. Have you seen the Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters hardcover Penguin classics? They're lovely - but more like ornaments than readable books!

  3. I'm happy if I get through one, maybe two, books in a month! I just finished reading 'A Room of One's Own' by Virginia Woolf and I'm astonished I never read it before. Other than that, I just read whatever takes my fancy at a certain time...

  4. @X: Love your hardcover! Let me know how you get on with Catcher.

    @Nicola: I'm sure you can pick up the pace during the Summer holidays, yes? Those covers you mentioned ARE gorgeous! Collectors items!

    @Andi: How was the Woolf?
