Daily Outfit: Airwear

Last week I visited the Gold Coast for a little holiday! Yahoooooo

Plane attire photographed in our 5* hotel room (yay).

Daily Outfit: Post-Wedding

My wonderful cousin got married in the holidays (I introduced the happy couple!) and while I don't have any photos of my frock on the day itself I do have the aftermath... after brunch and cellar doors, of course.

Daily Outfit: Belated Bastille Day

Bonjour tout le monde!

How did you spend your Bastille Day?

I sorted out my taxes, went on a pain au chocolat hunt on my bicycle, sat in the local park with a French novel and red wine, met up with the manfriend and headed to a movie night! Lovely.

Daily Outfit: PD

Sorry folks, I've been rather sick this week. I haven't even wanted to get dressed, let alone blog! Hopefully I'll be able to pop some outfit shots up... even some of sunny Queensland!

I decided overalls were the go for my second day of conferencing (during the holidays... grizzle)

After, I went to Harbour Town and bought my first suit!

Just a Minute in June/July

I'm a bit behind the times here but thought I'd make up for it with a double whammy! Wahoo!

Reading... the Jenny Kee biography, upon recommendation of the ever-inspiring Ruby, a funny tale from Jasper Fforde, and Sophie's World (I missed out when I was in my teens, as was the case with Catcher in the Rye, the Perks of being a Wallflower etc.) The usual stash of magazines. Physics textbooks. I have a lovely little pile of library books waiting for me - what a great feeling!

Listening... to encouragement on my running app - sometimes I love her, sometimes loathe! I just made a jogging playlist for high energy. Cycling commentary. Wedding vows. Holiday stories. The accountant. Zappa cover band. The manfriend's band (!). Airport announcements.

Wishing... the cold weather would thaw out for a week or two. Good thing we squeezed in a Queensland holiday!

Watching... wild weather outside. A flasher!!! Pictures of glaciers. Bridesmaids. Tour de France, every night.

Buying... Dinner, dinner, lunch, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Theme park tickets! French cheese. My first suit (!)

Wanting... snoozing, warm weather and inspiration.

Missing... summer fruit. My friends in Melbourne.

Cooking... less now that my parents are back home. Eating out more too.

Making... room in my brain. A mess of my bedroom floor.

Loving... flannel sheets. Celebrating talented friends and making new ones. Weddings. Secondhand books. How multicultural dining is in Australia. Running. Summer holidays in winter. Churros. Rollercoasters. Brightly coloured shoes. My new, rabbit-soft, royal blue jumper. iTunes on shuffle in my bedroom. Hot chips. Sequins during the day. Green tea (always and forever). Phonecalls when you need them. Getting inspiration from the people around you. The days getting longer. Jasmine. Returning to band. Making plans for the end of year and beyond. Hearing from old friends. Good hair days. Waterslides. General good health.

Clothes swap. Such fun!

Last time I did one of these was back in May....
What's floating your boat these days?

Daily Outfit: Bridesmaids

Hello!

These photos are from last week, when I went and saw Bridesmaids at the cinema. Despite everyone's recommendations, I only laughed out loud a few times. Perhaps one of those films better enjoyed with friends/vodka.

Did you know that I'm going to be a bridesmaid at the end of the year?! Eek! Very exciting.

Daily Outfit: PD Grumble

What better way to spend the first two days of holidays than by doing some Professional Development.... GRUMBLE! At least I have amazing colleagues.

Felt a bit swashbucklin' that mornin'

Daily Outfit: Solo Sunday

Have I ever mentioned on here how much I love self-dates? Dressing up and going somewhere new. Taking yourself out to dinner and writing in your diary. Walking through a park, camera in hand. Heading to the cinema and sipping wine while you watch.

Sunday was a good chance for some solo Sequin time, so I drove out to Port Adelaide for a book fair and a poke-around. I got quite a few books, including one on French slang which is pretty funny.

The markets down there however are in desperate need of some love: looking seriously dated. I had a fossick through a costume/vintage stall but was generally overwhelmed by the "antique" (crap) and cheap, plastic (crap) found in every direction.

Shiny shiny! Over the winter drab in a big way.

Daily Outfit: Saturday Adventures

Roaming with the manfriend and enjoying each others' company.

Canberra Capsule

Continuing with the clothing retrospective, here's a few snaps of a trip to Canberra early 2009. A fitting post as I'm struggling to throw together a capsule wardrobe for my trip to Queensland tomorrow!

Daily Outfit: Frock Final Friday!

Picture from the last day at school. Lots of comments on the stockings!

Daily Outfit: Disco Physics

Last week of school. Sweet, sweet holidaytimes!

Going Back in Time...

I've been thinking a little about my fashion history as of late.

I've been clothes crazy as far back as I can remember (which, admittedly, isn't very long!) Collecting magazines, mixing colours, experimenting with new shapes, researching fashion history...
Mining my own looks for inspiration. I can still recall the day I first dressed myself independently. Unfortunately I did put my pants on backwards, but perhaps that was just expressing a subconscious desire to stand out from the preschool crowd.

The point here is that I've been thinking about clothes, and their symbolism for a long, long time. And I loved getting dressed up, even before I had this blog. Did you know I used to keep a StyleDiary? It was kind of pre-blogging era.

I originally started blogging as a holiday project to keep me occupied while my (then) boyfriend was doing an internship interstate. Since January 2009, I've launched more than 1000 posts and couldn't imagine my life now without this blog alongside, chronicling my outfits and adventures.

Over the next few weeks I'd like to start sharing with you some photos from the vault. We'll start with the not so scary (early 2009) and then keep delving backwards. I don't think my clothing tastes have changed so much over the years but I'd love to know what you think!

Enjoy!

Short hair. Looking (unintentionally) surly. Pretty close to D-day.

Short hair!! Slightly butch?!

Visiting girlfriends in Melbourne before France adopted me. Hoochie skirt!

Getting ready for night out in M-town.

Laundry basket full of things I needed to pack pre-departure. Farewell tea.

Sunset date! I wasn't rocking the hot pink helmet yet!

Next time: a holiday in Canberra and then we hit 2008... going back in time....

Daily Outfit: Knit Wit

Daily Outfit: Made it!

Made it to the next little burst of sunshine! It's not all grey days, folks.

Daily Outfit: Royal Fringing

Have I expressed my love for royal blue lately? Well it's true. I'm way into it.

Acquired this frock at my recent clothes swap and decided to debut it at the Gov for a gig (and their pizza!).

Picture Post

Some files that have been accumulating on my desktop... no cats, I promise (saving them for a super special post!)

PS. No cohesive theme, just stuff I like.

Daily Outfit: Loving the Leopard

Interwebz issues, y'all.

Was finally brave enough to rock this look at school.

Haw Haw Haw

The French laughing sound, yes?

In preparation for Bastille Day.

Here's how we do it in France.

Daily Outfit: White Lace

School, late-night shopping and impromptu curry night with the man. I dig the jacket a whole lot.

This coat has matching lace leggings, you know?

Daily Outfit: Bluecoat

Got dressed in a hurry for band last week. A bit Frenchie? Trying new things is always fun! Hope it doesn't offend your eyeballs too badly.

Good habits

They say it takes four weeks to develop a habit. Well I've just ticked over into my fourth week of running and couldn't be happier!

Naomi Campbell in Harper's Bazaar, shot by Jean-Paul Goude.

While I've never been a particularly unhealthy person (vegetarian, non-smoker, cyclist), I've never been fit either. Since switching from daily cycling to driving, I needed to inject some exercise into my lifestyle.

I'd been debating the idea since returning home from France a year ago and finally bit the bullet and bought appropriate shoes one month back. Since then I've been running three times a week, with the help of this app. It's brilliant! When I compare the way I was running this afternoon to how much I was struggling with one-minute runs a few weeks back.... It feels so good to feel your body getting stronger.

I don't want to become one of those people that go on and on about exercise. But if you are considering running, or just feel the need to make a change I encourage you to try it. Start slowly. Don't worry about people looking at you - I promise you they're not. Step into your new sneakers, put on a cotton tshirt and slick your hair into a high ponytail. Fuchsia lipstick optional (not too bad with my pink post-exercise face!) Just get out there, into the fresh air and do it. Peek into your neighbours' gardens. Avoid the dog poo. Take a different direction every day. Drop off overdue books at the library along the way. Make it part of your routine.

Daily Outfit: Got Dots?

Last week was quite a spotty one!

Beautiful weather on Wednesday. Unlike this week. Harrumph.

Daily Outfit: Uniformity

Sometimes it's good to wear something a little more uniform...

Parfait pour le Tour!

Been thinking about how I want to spend my Bastille Day: French pastries, red wine, Tour watching? Sounds good.

Daily Outfit: Winter Colour

Hey there! You there! I've been off the blogging bandwagon for quite a few weeks now but hoping the occasional outfit shot will keep you clicking back.

I have been trying my hardest lately to keep up the colour, despite the grey winter days getting me down. The principal at my school commented that I must be the most colourful member of staff, and thankfully he meant it as a compliment.

Shopping sporadically means I am making do with what's in my closet (and making the most of the clothing swap I held a few weeks ago!) I find this site really amazing for fun colour combinations and am keen to bust out of my makeup rut (I have so much makeup that I never find an occasion to use, and I really should). Incidentally, I'm reading a novel all about colour at the moment! (Jasper Fforde, Shades of Grey).
