Unfortunately this week's summary is likely to be a dull one as I've been spending most of my waking hours here:
After weeks and weeks of leisure I am unaccustomed to working 48-hour weeks.
I did, however, get Saturday off work and welcomed an old friend to town for a day of Disney extravaganza.
Later we went to a little party in the 13th which had the most incredible backyard. I was pinching myself, and asking if we were still in Paris: fig tree, pear tree, grapevines, tool shed... Indian cakes, little games and dancing to Prince, Grease and French hip-hop. Amazing!
My lovely friends came to visit me while I was at work on Sunday
This week I am grateful for my friends being so understanding of my new routine, and for flirty customers who give generous tips!
I used to feel entirely uncomfortable about staying over at other people's houses. I'd rather head home from a party at 5am than fall asleep in somebody's lounge room.
This year everything has changed and I'm a nomad with her world in her handbag: whisky, makeup, suncream, iPod, diary, knickers.
I've been thinking about my idea of home a lot lately, and where I'm going next. It'll be hard to move back to Adelaide after my Parisian life.
Headed down to Fontainebleau to explore the castle and surrounding forests. Gorgeous greenery. After adventuring there was an amazing dinner party in the old knitting factory with homemade icecream cake. Yum.
Super mega awesome day at the Asterix themepark. It was stinking hot and the queues were hideously long but the epic coasters made it all worth it!
Group dating in the latin quarter with lots of wine and fondue. It was not as suggestive as it sounds, fear not.
Friday sunset picnic at Versailles, and meeting the boyfriend's little sister and (hilarious) dad. Later on, beers and dancing at the only indie club I know in Paris.
A sunny afternoon in the local park with novels, icecream and good company and an evening of Chinese vegetarian feasting followed by a picnic and MJ dancing on the Seine.
Beautiful fresh food near the Champs Elysées and a perfect Parisian Sunday afternoon: lêches vitrines, Place de la concorde, crêpe, jardin des Tuileries, la grande roue (with an AMAZING view of the city), opera singers, reggae bands and magicians at Paris Plages, Ile de la cité, and to cap it off: delicious Indian in the Marais. I went home a very happy lady.
Starting a new job! The first two days have been exhausting (10 hours straight, bite to eat at 11pm), on the feet the whole time, but my colleagues are really decent and it's highly amusing to be a French waitress. Not sure how long the novelty will last but at the moment I'm enjoying the tips (mostly from tourists) and am looking forward to my first pay cheque.
Otherwise: my new money belt, walking through Montmartre at 1am and looking at stars, taking the tramway along grass, Promenade Plantée, splashing water on the back of my neck to cool down, lovely emails from parents and friends, deezer.com, writing in my diary when I have the chance, making travel plans....
Just wanted to share my definition of 'practical clothes' - perfect for shlooping through quicksand, naps in fields, hiking along a road and climbing up and down numerous steps....
I went to Eurodisney... again. I bought an annual pass and I intend to make the most of it!
Pirates of the Caribbean
Gorged on fake meat at a vegan Chinese restaurant. Delish and cheap cheap! I'll be heading back..
Enjoyed some alone time and caught up with emails. Skyped with my parents (and cat). Cooked eggplant pasta and had a Friday night movie date with my French mom
One of the best weekends of my life: took the train out near Fontainebleau and stayed in my friend's old knitting factory home. Ate a ridiculous amount of cheese and drank much, much red wine. Had a dinner party, walks around the quaint medieval city, played scrabble, had my hair cut, drove (!!), ate delicious icecream, sat by the river for hours... all in amazing company. Sunday night came and we didn't want the weekend to end so we stayed another night
Collecting my buddy from the airport for a week of adventures. Château de Fontainebleau and Asterix themepark here we come...
Bonjour! Australian Francophile physics teacher recovering from a year of wonder. I lived and worked at a high school in Bordeaux, France for seven months, and have just got back to Adelaide, Australia after a further five months backpacking (Japan! Hungary! Germany! Iceland! Canada! etc). I'm a pretty happy person, and I like reading a lot.
