Daily Outfit: First Day

This is it! Thursday marked my first day at work... paid work! Most other teachers were happy in shorts and tshirts but I thought I'd make my usual effort.

Not so Handy

I experienced a whole new level of pain yesterday while chopping up chilli for a papaya salad. HOLY SMOKES! I knew I had sensitive skin, but three hours of burning agony?!


I tried everything: milk, ice cubes, salt, soap, tequila....


I thought I was going to be permanently disabled (hypochondriac, much?)


Thankfully the heat subsided just as we were tucking in to the papaya salad. The verdict? Not a spicy dish at all...

Although it's been a hot weekend, this shot was in fact taken before I went away. Teachers catch up at the beach for lunch!





I rode my bike all the way down (about 15km) and my chain only came off twice...

Welcome Home

It's been a while my dears! Last time I touched base I was at the beginning of my travels in Laos, ready to continue exploring Southeast Asia. Thank you for the well wishes and concern!

We had a great time.




The last few days have been a bit busy, what with starting a new job and all! I'm most excited to start a new routine.

Thanks for your patience and I look forward to a return to regular programming...

Lost in Laos

Sa bai dee friends! I know it's been a while between posts but I haven't been on the internet since I left Australia. It's been a crazy trip so far and we've only just settled in a place (for an extra night, yippee!)

We....

• arrived in Bangkok late Wednesday night
• spent Thursday touring the city in sweltering heat
• caught an overnight bus on Thursday night
• arrived in Chiang Rai Friday morning, bussed to Chiang Khong, crossed the border into Laos at Huay Xai and hopped onto a boat
• cruised down the Mekong on Friday and Saturday, sleeping overnight at Pak Beng
• survived our boat breaking down on Saturday night and running out of natural light and somehow managed to make it to Luang Prabang
• have just enjoyed a relaxing Sunday exploring Luang Prabang

On the road again

By the time you're reading this we'll have safely touched down in Bangkok, Thailand, ready for three weeks exploring Laos and Cambodia. I'm so excited!

I haven't travelled (overseas) since coming home from France in February! This time, I'm Asia bound and with the manfriend in tow to boot. I've explored Thailand and China to date, and am looking forward to adding two more Asian nations to the photo albums.


Posting is likely to be sporadic at best so in the meantime I wish you all joyous summer (or winter!) holidays and I'll be seeing you all after Australia Day...

I very irresponsibly neglected to get any snaps on New Year's Eve so you just have to make do with the day after: sleep-in, breakfast alfresco, bike ride in sunshine, homemade lunch, trip to the beach, dusk beers, cheap (delicious!) Chinese. Starting the year off right!

My, my petals: how time flies when you're having fun. It's been a splendid silly season, hasn't it?!

This shot was taken the other day at my friend's "Open House" - drop in between dawn and midnight for a glass or two and a feed with good company.
