Today marks Remembrance Day, where we Australians honour those fallen in wars and armed conflicts.
It is custom on this day to wear a red poppy, a flower that blooms on upturned soil, bringing beauty to scarred battlefields.
These photos were taken during European summer, as I cycled through the French countryside near Montpellier.
Of course poppies make me think of the Wizard of Oz:
